My privacy commitment.
This site collects almost nothing, and what little it does collect it protects. Here is exactly what is collected, where it lives, who can see it, and what I will never do with it — in plain English, no legal fog.
What I collect
Most of this site collects nothing at all. There are no advertising pixels, no cross-site trackers, and no data brokers. One aggregate measurement tool runs on every page, described in its own section below (Cloudflare Web Analytics). Beyond that, data is collected in only two places, and only when you choose to use them:
- The mailing list (Module 5 in the Action Center). If you subscribe, I collect your first name and your email address. Nothing else.
- The representative lookup (Module 6 in the Action Center). Only when you submit a lookup, this site's server sends your street address to the U.S. Census Bureau to match the address and districts, then sends the matched coordinates to Brevard County GIS to identify your county commission district. This site does not save the address or coordinates, or link them to mailing-list records. The providers' own privacy, logging, and retention policies apply.
Two other Action Center tools ask you to type information — the registration status check and the voter registration forms — but that information never reaches me. It is handled entirely by the state of Florida's own systems, directly from your browser. I do not see it, receive it, or store it.
Where it is stored
The only user data I store is the email address and first name of people on the mailing list. Those records live in Cloudflare KV, a key-value store hosted in the United States. They sit on infrastructure I control directly. No third-party marketing platform, email service provider dashboard, or customer-data tool holds a copy.
This site does not store representative-lookup addresses or matched coordinates in its database, mailing list, or application logs. The address and results are cleared from the lookup interface when you close it. This does not mean the external lookup providers keep no logs; their own policies govern their processing and retention.
Who sees it
Only David Sherrer, the site operator — me — can see the mailing list. No marketing vendors. No data brokers. No advertising partners. No one else has access to the stored email addresses.
What I never do
I will never sell, rent, or trade your data. I will never use it for any purpose beyond what is stated in the module where you gave it to me — sending you lagoon updates, or performing the representative lookup you requested. The requested lookup does involve sharing your address with the U.S. Census Bureau and the matched coordinates with Brevard County GIS, under their own policies. I do not use lookup addresses or coordinates for profiling or link them to the mailing list.
How to delete your data
Every mailing-list email includes a one-click unsubscribe, which deletes your address immediately. You can also email me at [email protected] and ask me to remove you. I do same-day removal. There are no stored representative-lookup addresses or coordinates for me to delete from this site. Questions about any provider-held records are governed by that provider's policies.
Site measurement (Cloudflare Web Analytics)
This site is hosted on Cloudflare, and Cloudflare Web Analytics is enabled. A small script loads on each page and reports page views and page-load performance to Cloudflare so I can see, in aggregate, which pages people read and whether the site is loading properly. It does not set cookies on this site, and Cloudflare states that Web Analytics does not collect or use visitors' personal data; see Cloudflare's Web Analytics documentation and Cloudflare's privacy policy. I see counts and performance charts, not individual people, and nothing from it is joined to the mailing list or the representative lookup. Cloudflare, as the host, also processes the technical request data any web server sees in order to deliver the pages, under its own policies.
The transactional mail vendor (Resend)
To send the confirmation email and any list updates, I use Resend, a transactional email service. Resend receives your email address for the sole purpose of delivering the message to you, in line with their terms of service. They act as a delivery pipe, not a marketing platform: they do not use your address to market to you, and they are not permitted to sell or share it. Resend retains delivery metadata for a limited period for operational and deliverability purposes, per their published retention policy; I do not use Resend to build audiences or run campaigns beyond the lagoon updates described here.
The lookup providers (U.S. Census Bureau and Brevard County GIS)
The representative lookup uses the U.S. Census Bureau's address geocoder and Brevard County GIS district maps. When you choose to run a lookup, my server forwards your street address to the Census Bureau and uses the matched coordinates in a request to Brevard County GIS. It returns the results without saving your address or coordinates or connecting the lookup to the mailing list. These external services operate under their own privacy, logging, and retention policies. I do not control their logs and cannot guarantee that they do not retain requests. Opening an official contact page also takes you to an external site governed by its own policies.
Questions about your data?
Write to me at [email protected]. I answer these myself.
Event submissions
The optional event form collects a host organization, submitter name and staff-only contact email, event details, and permission to publish the public event information. These are used only to verify and moderate an event. Names and contact emails are never included in public listings, added to the ballot-reminder list, or used for automatic email.
Submissions and staff contact details expire from the private review queue within 90 days of receipt and may be deleted sooner. Staff approval does not publish automatically; a separate reviewed site update is required. Approved public event information may remain in a site archive. A short-lived hashed connection identifier is used for submission rate limiting and expires within one hour. Cloudflare request handling is subject to its own policies.
On local or review previews, submissions are not transmitted. If submissions are not activated or a save fails, the form reports that rather than claiming success.
