Brevard County voters approved the renewal of the Save Our Indian River Lagoon half-cent sales tax on Tuesday, November 3, 2026.

The count

  • 271,885 ballots were cast county-wide, a 60.79% turnout of 447,257 registered voters (same source).
  • Florida Today's results page showed 191,805 to 62,033 (75.6% to 24.4%) with 96% of precincts reporting at 8:25 p.m. on election night (Florida Today).
  • These figures are unofficial. The Supervisor of Elections notes they exclude provisional ballots and mail ballots eligible to be cured. Official results follow certification by the county canvassing board.

What was approved

The ballot asked whether the County should renew the existing half-cent sales tax for ten years, with all revenue deposited to a trust fund solely for lagoon restoration, continued citizen committee oversight and annual independent audits. The County ordinance extends the levy from January 1, 2027 through December 31, 2036 at the same half-cent rate, and also requires an interlocal agreement with the municipalities on distribution of proceeds before January 1, 2027 (renewal ordinance).
